Much of our labor is focused on providing opportunities and experiences that will aid our students prosper the skills and confidence to be fully included as members of their community. Established as an orphanage by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan Order in 1910, today, Mater Dec School Services is a community based organization that provides premature intervention therapy services, education and residential programs for babies, children and young people with an intellectual disability or developmental delay. We work to bear our students with the skills and abilities to access their local communities as valued and contributing members in a manner that builds acceptance and dignity for people with disabilities. We currently have 70 staff occupied across a range of programs at Mater Dec. We have staff busy directly with our babies, children and young adults with a disability as healthy as a long range of people employed in supporting roles. In this way it is our hope that students will live as independently as conceivable in the minimum restrictive and maximum stimulating environment in the wider community. As a Catholic and Appropriate Samaritan School in the Benedictine tradition, Mater Dec respects the dignity of each person and the unique contribution they make to our school community. We do this through focusing strongly on inclusion and active with our local communities to create an environment that is both hospitable and nurturing for our students and all people with disabilities. The cost of weekly swimming lessons has been included in the Mater Dec school fees, therefore students DO NOT need to bring money for their lessons each week. Inclusion in mainstream schools provides students with the chance to learn with and from their mainstream peers as healthy as big-hearted Mater Dec students the opportunity to benefit the attitude and skills necessary for living in routine communities where everyone is included as a valued and equal member of society. In addition, we believe that hospitable mainstream students into the Mater Dec community is an excellent opportunity for them to comprehend the gifts and talents of Mater Dec students and to earnings a deeper awareness of social justice issues. Mater Dec's Higher School Certificate Program offers post mandatory education and training for students through an accredited curriculum that addresses social, recreational, labor and living skills for a thriving life behind school. While our focus is providing nutritious food to the students and allowing them to have access to the excitement of using a canteen at school, it is also a great opportunity for parents to get together each week in an inclusive environment. CEOPrincipal, Mr Tony Fitzgerald shared his vision for both existing and future Mater Dec students, his desire to bear students with ongoing opportunities for training and support through work placement programs and specific job skills training. The Race Day was a massive victory with 280 guests attending and all coming together to have lots of fun and elevate funds for Mater Dec. There are numerous ways you can promote Mater Dec and become portion of building an inclusive community for some notable children. Mater Dec has been providing therapy, education and protection to children and young people with intellectual disability and promote to their families for over 50 years. Vocational Skills and Structured Placement We will equip our students with the communication, social, travel training, problem solving and specific technical skills that will allow them to become fully participating members of the work and social community they enter when they depart Mater Dec.
